Company
History
Western Mutual Insurance Company was incorporated in California on March 7, 1942, as a county mutual fire insurer with the name Coast Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Los Angeles County, and commenced business on April 30, 1942. Sister company Residence Mutual Insurance Company was founded seven years later, in 1949, also as a county mutual fire insurer. In 1973, the companies changed the form of operation to that of general mutual insurance companies with multiple line authority and Coast Mutual adopted the present title of Western Mutual Insurance Company. In 2002, the Western Mutual Insurance Group began expanding into other Southwestern states, and now writes business in California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Utah. Additionally, in 2005, Arizona Home Insurance Company, which writes business in Arizona, was purchased and incorporated into the Group.
